What led you to becoming foster parents?
We felt led to become foster parents through a very circuitous route. We have four children and and knew we wanted more, but were not able to have more biologically. We began looking into adoption and just didn’t feel like God was opening the doors for it to happen. About a year went by with us pursuing adoption, and along the way people kept bringing up fostering to us. Although it had really never been on our radar, within a few months of talking about it and praying about it we felt like God was opening all the doors for that to happen and we signed up for our training class last January. Instead of adopting we may have dozens of “fifth kids” instead through fostering.
What is your best memory as a foster family?
Our best memories as a foster family are just the simple things with our foster daughter. She loves to ride her scooter down the sidewalk when we take family walks, play in the pool with our kids and go to Yogurtology.
What would you say to a family that is considering becoming a foster family?
Pray about it and ask God to show you if he is calling your family to foster. If He is, then even on the days when it is hard you will feel peace knowing that you are at the center of God’s will for you and your family. Fostering has strengthened my faith more than anything so far, because many days ARE tough, and I have to cling to Jesus in a way I never have before!!
